Tell Congress: During This Pandemic, Support Our Public Postal Service

President Trump has been on the attack of the United States Postal Service since the release of the Postal Task Force Report in December 2018. The report called for limiting service obligations; changing delivery frequency; shutting facilities; move towards privatization; and, limiting the collecting bargaining rights of its employees.

In the CARES Act (P.L. 116-136), the Postal Service was allotted $10 billion in borrowing from the Department of Treasury. Not only does this fail to meet the Postal Service’s projected revenue losses caused by COVID-19 pandemic,  Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin would have the ability to implement any operational changes – creating a hallow Postal Service that is unable to serve every American household and abandons its dedicated employees.

The Postal Service is repeatedly rated by Americans as the most trustworthy federal agency; one of the largest employers of our nation’s veterans; and, the backbone of a $1.6 trillion mailing industry. In these uncertain times, the Administration should not be holding the Postal Service hostage.

NPMHU members and their families are rightfully concerned about their safety, health and wellbeing. As essential workers, postal employees shouldn’t be faced with attacks on our jobs. We urge you to reach out to your Representatives and Senators, demanding they support the Postal Service and its employees.
