In a letter to House and Senate leadership, LiUNA General President Terry O'Sullivan advocated for the Postal Service and its employees, calling for financial relief in the next stimulus package. As NPMHU is a division of LiUNA, we appreicate the support from our brothers and sisters.
President O'Sullivan calls for public service appropriations for the Postal Service in order to combat the lost revenue as caused by the COVID-19 pandemic; hazard pay for postal employees; USPS to allotted reimbursement provisions for sick leave and family medical leave provided in the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (P.L. 116-127); and, to remove Treasury Dempartment's discretion to impose operational changes as a condition of USPS' borrowing authority.
As the Postal Service is facing a revenue loss of $13 billion as a direct result of the pandemic, as well as $54.3 billion in losses over the next decade, Postmaster General Megan Brennan relayed to the House Oversight & Reform Committee she expects to run out of cash on hand by the end of the fiscal year. In order to continue to meet its constitutionally mandated mission and goals, USPS needs immediate assistance from members of Congress in the next stimulus package.
