In reports from NBC News and the Washington Post, the street outside of the AFL-CIO, which houses the national headquarters of the NPMHU, LiUNA and AFL-CIO, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser had the district paint the phrase "Black Lives Matter." Along with the action, a district worker hung up a sign calling the street, "Black Lives Matter Plaza, NW."

In another show of support for the Black Lives Matter movement, the AFL-CIO, hung Black Lives Matter posters around the building. The House of Labor was a vicitim of vandalism when rioters took advantage of peaceful protests, using it as a cover to smash all of the windows on the ground floor and start a fire in the lobby. There has been a marked increase of federal law enforcement presence in DC as a response, however, protests throughout the area have been lawful civil disobedience.

Commenting on the events over the past week, LiUNA President Terry O'Sullivan stated, "We stand shoulder to shoulder with all those who are committed to tearing down the walls of inequality and racism that have plagued our nation for far too long. The men and women of LIUNA strongly support the right to peacefully demonstrate, which is a founding principle of our nation, our union, and our society.  We condemn the lawless cowards who are exploiting these terrible times - acting with violence and disregard for the values of our democracy."
