On September 26, 2013, President Hegarty testified before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs. In testimony, Hegarty commented that, “Further reductions in the number of processing facilities or in the hours worked by mail handlers will have a direct and dire impact on the timely processing and delivery of all classes of mail.” Hegarty highlighted the Mail Handlers ongoing contributions to the financial turnaround of the Postal Service noting all postal employees have contributed to the rejuvenation of the Postal Service. President Hegarty went on to address many aspects of pending legislation and most notably, the Postal Service’s ill-advised proposals to change its retirement and health insurance programs.
