National President John Hegarty recently made three appointments to the NPMHU’s Committee on the Future: June Harris, President of Local 306 (Illinois and Wisconsin), David Wilkin, President of Local 309 (representing portions of New York and Pennsylvania), and Woody Hendrickson, Local 332 President (Utah) will be joining the Committee.

“Postal employees and the services that we provide are under attack. It is imperative that we continue to challenge and oppose the threatened closures, consolidations, subcontracting efforts, harmful legislation and the degradation of service standards on all fronts now and into the future,” said Hegarty.   June Harris, David Wilkin and Woody Hendrickson bring an array of experience to the table and are a welcome addition to the Committee.  The Committee will next meet in January of 2015, and the NPMHU is confident that the addition of June, David and Woody will serve to greatly enhance the expertise and forward-thinking capabilities of the group into 2015 and beyond.

June Harris began her postal career at the Chicago Bulk Mail Center, in Forest Park Illinois in 1984. She became a shop steward in 1992, and progressed to chief steward in 1996.  June is a skilled Arbitration Advocate for Local 306 and a member of the Chicago NDC QWL Local Joint Steering Committee.  In June of 2001, Sister Harris secured the position of Recording Secretary of Local 306, a position she held until she was duly elected as Vice President in 2008. June was Vice President for two terms. In 2014, Harris was elected to her current position of Local 306 President.  

June has served as an elected delegate to several of the NPMHU National Conventions – including her service as Chairwoman of the Election Committee at the 2012 convention.  She was also a member of the NPMHU National RI-399 Arbitration Team. June holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration.

David Wilkin began his career as a Mailhandler in 1981. In November of 1987, Brother Wilkin was elected to the position of Administrative Vice President in the Rochester P&DC in Henrietta, New York. David held this position for two terms.  In 1993, Brother Wilkin was elected to the position of New York State Executive Board Member for Local 309, a position he held until assuming the Local presidency in 2005. Brother Wilkin has held the position of Local President continuously ever since.   

David is a seasoned and skilled Arbitration and MSPB advocate, and has participated in all LMOU negotiations in Local 309 since 1987.  David serves as a member of the RI-399 Arbitration Team, and has attended a plethora of training opportunities over his 33 years. Wilkin was elected to represent Local 309 as a Delegate at both LIUNA and NPMHU Conventions, serving on the Constitutional Committee during the 2008 and 2012 conventions.

Woody Hendrickson began his career with the Postal Service in 1979. His service to the NPMHU began shortly thereafter; in 1984, he readily accepted an appointment as a Shop Steward. Hendrickson was elected to the position of Administrative Vice President for the Salt Lake Branch in 1993, a position he held for multiple terms.  Three years later, Woody was also elected Vice President of Local 332. In 1998, Hendrickson assumed the position of Local 332 President, and continues to serve in this position today. President Hendrickson is currently the NPMHU’s longest serving Local President.

Woody has attended several arbitration advocacy training classes at the George Meany Labor College and is a skilled advocate.  He represented the members of Local 332 in each of the past five National Conventions, during which, he had the occasion to serve on the Constitution Committee in 2000, 2004, 2008 & 2012.  In addition, Hendrickson has served on the two most recent Field Negotiating Committees assisting in preparing the NPMHU position in national bargaining. Woody has attended a wide array of training programs conducted over his 30 years of service in Local 332.
