NPMHU Issues Special Edition Bargaining Update
On January 21, 2020, the NPMHU and the Postal Service reached a tentative agreement to establish the terms of their 2019 National Agreement. Today, on January 22, 2020, the specific terms of that tentative agreement are being released to the NPMHU membership. Linked below are a Special Bulletin just released by the NPMHU, as well as a complete summary of the tentative agreement. The agreement is subject to ratification by a majority vote of the Union’s membership. The balloting process will begin in late February or early March (within 45 days), with a 30-day period for return of ballots.
If ratified, the contract will cover a period of three years, and will be in effect through September 20, 2022. At its core, the tentative agreement will continue to protect the jobs and living standards of all career mail handlers employed by the Postal Service, both now and in the future. It contains four general wage increases and six cost-of-living adjustments. The agreement also has substantial improvements for Mail Handler Assistants (MHAs), converts many MHAs to career status, and eliminates all casual employees.
