NPMHU ARTHUR S. VALLONE NATIOINAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

NPMHU Arthur S. Vallone National Scholarship Program Now Accepting Applications for the 2020-2021 School Year

The National Postal Mail Handlers Union is pleased to offer the opportunity for regular craft members of the National Postal Mail Handlers Union, and members of their immediate families, to apply for scholarship assistance from the NPMHU Arthur S. Vallone National Scholarship Program.  Specific eligibility requirements for the program are available at npmhu.org.

This scholarship program has been providing assistance to deserving recipients since 2001.  In February 2005, the program was renamed in honor of Arthur S. Vallone.  Arthur had served the NPMHU with distinction for over twenty-five years at his untimely passing in January 2005.  Arthur was a true believer in the Union Movement, and a tireless advocate for Mail Handlers and all working people.  His list of accomplishments and contributions to the NPMHU is lengthy.  The National Postal Mail Handlers Union is proud to honor the legacy that Brother Vallone has left behind.

The purpose of the National Postal Mail Handlers Union Arthur S. Vallone Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to Mail Handlers and/or their family members who are seeking to further their education beyond high school.  The program will award a minimum of 15 scholarships (3 per Region) in the annual amount of at least $1,000, renewable for up to four (4) years or until the completion of the undergraduate degree, whichever occurs first (for a maximum of $4,000 per recipient over 4 years).  Additional scholarships may be awarded, depending upon the number of applicants and the number of renewals each year.

Scholarship eligibility details and application instructions are now available at npmhu.org. Applicants must submit complete applications and the related materials listed at the link below to the Scholarship Committee on or before March 15, 2020.

COMMIT TO BUYING UNION MADE PRODUCTS IN 2020

As we approach a new calendar year, many will partake in the custom of making a New Year’s resolution. Some will declare that this is the year they will lose weight; others will commit to stop smoking. Maybe you will pledge to reduce stress, save money or take that bucket list trip. The neighborhood gym will be overrun with those hoping to kick off the New Year feeling better about their health. Others will vow to volunteer their time to a charity or get better organized? Presumably, your resolution will seek to improve your overall well-being with a fresh start of sorts or will employ a commitment to help others in some way.

With that spirit, the NPMHU proposes a New Year’s resolution to express your Union solidarity – BUY UNION MADE PRODUCTS IN 2020. We encourage all members, family and friends to join in our resolve to support organized labor by seeking out and purchasing products and services made at the hands of, or provided by, a fellow Union laborer. With consideration to our fragile economy and tumultuous labor climate, we hope you will make a conscious decision to spend your Union wages on Union-made goods. When you Buy Union, you ensure that your hard-earned money is being used to make purchases of quality goods and services. Have you ever traveled the aisles of your neighborhood grocery or department store filling your cart, wondering which product is Union made? The choices are vast. Whether you are purchasing everyday items such food and clothing, household necessities, or making a larger purchase such as an appliance or automobile, you do have the opportunity to buy Union made merchandise. Union products and services are symbols of quality and fair pay and are found everywhere, from washing machines to baked goods, from shoes to beer, from clothing to pet food. They are evidence of quality goods and services produced by proud American workers.

The NPMHU is calling on all members to spend wisely and embrace a New Year’s resolution to support Unions by purchasing Union made products. It’s a win-win arrangement for everyone – labor, management, consumers, and the community, where the economy benefits from the paychecks and taxes of well-paid workers.

The Union Label and Service Trades Department of the AFL-CIO was created to promote the products and services produced in America by union members. The AFL-CIO also maintains and publishes a “Don’t Buy” list of companies being boycotted and the products and services involved; you can access that list at the AFL-CIO sponsored website www.unionlabel.org. The Union Label and Service Trades Department, AFL-CIO has also developed a mobile app. The app is your source for news and information from the department. Within the app, you can conveniently search for union-made products and services.

In addition, the NPMHU maintains a link on our home page at www.npmhu.org entitled Buy Union – Buy American. This source provides many links to a plethora of American and Union-made products. Support the Union movement by patronizing Union brands and Made in America products in 2020.

NPMHU LAUNCHES MOBILE APP

The National Office is pleased to announce the launch our official NPMHU mobile App. We’ve heard from more and more members that use smartphones to stay connected. They would like to have an NPMHU App to get their information; we are pleased to provide this communication tool. You can access the latest news, updates, events, and information of organizational importance. In addition, the App will access photos and videos that are posted on the website.

The App will also have significant value when it comes to the 2020 Convention. A component of the App will be specific to Convention updates, reports, and activities, but more on this in the coming months. The platform supports iPhone and Android devices. You can now download the App from Apple App Store or Google Play store—simply search for NPMHU and get connected. You can also use your smartphone to scan the QR Code shown on this page to acquire a direct link to the NPMHU mobile App in the App store.
